Ok .. Now we all remember that cottage pie is made with cows right? Not sheep , pigs, ducks, (I had a duck cottage pie on a flight to Portugal once, although it was indeed rather good it’s not right!)..
Ok.. Cool..
Cottage pie.. A wonderful food hug for the times when the nights are quicker and the cold is creeping about through the gaps..
I like mine with carrots and peas..already inside..
Mrs Fitz packs loads more veggies into her version. It’s almost medicinal! (In a good vitamin boosting way..).
Simple to make just please do use the best ground meat you can..
Fry it off with the onions and carrots..
When brownish and the onions kinda sits and going translucent add your preferred flavourings.. Stock, herbs, seasoning, packet mix, be as fancy or as plain as you like.. A squidge of ketchup always seems to help it along though.. As well as nutritional yeast flakes.. Or Vegemite/marmite..
The potatoes boil and and an egg yolk butter, salt and pepper and a little thyme (just because I have some fresh still..)..
Meat into dish.. Potatoes ontop..
I did this the day before and left it in the fridge.. It’s good for a few days there really..
Into the oven for forty odd minutes.. Till it’s bubbling and the top crisping.. watch this great clip while you wait.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UdYDKmpzt5U&sns=em
Delicious indeed!!
